Ingredients

2 : c Flour

1 : tb Sugar

2 : ts Baking powder

1/2 : ts Baking soda

3/4 : ts Salt

1/4 : c Cold butter

1 : Egg

2/3 : c Buttermilk

Milk : Milk for brushing tops

Sugar : Sugar for sprinkling

3 : c Flour

1/3 : c Sugar

2 : 1/ ts Baking powder

1/2 : ts Baking soda

3/4 : ts Salt

12 : tb Butter

1 : c Buttermilk

3/4 : c Currants

1 : ts Grated orange rind

-(orange : -(orange part, or zest only)

Directions

0: Heat oven to 400 degrees

1: Mix together first six ingredients

2: Beat vigorously Gently smooth dough into a ball on lightly floured board

3: Knead five times

4: Roll dough 1/2-inch thick

5: Cut with floured doughnut cutter

6: To make bow knots, hold opposite sides of each doughnut ring with fingers and twist to form a figure 8

7: Place holes (buttons) and bow knots on ungreased baking sheet

8: Bake 8 to 10 minutes

9: Immediately dip each button and bow knot into melted butter, then into sugar, coating all sides

10: Serve warm

11: Makes 8 buttons and bow knots or 8 doughnuts
