1: In a separate bowl, dissolve soda in lemon juice
2: Mix in eggs and vanilla
3: Beat butter mixture and egg mixture together
4: Add flour and salt
5: Do not over mix
6: Gently fold in apples
7: Mix crumb ingredients, cutting in butter to get a coarse crumb texture
8: Spoon 1/2 of batter into greased stoneware loaf pan
9: Sprinkle with 1/2 crumb mixture
10: Spoon in remaining batter and sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture
11: Press crumbs gently into surface of batter
12: Bake at 375 degrees for 1 hour 15 minutes or until a cake tester inserted in center comes out clean
13: Cool slightly in pan
14: Remove bread from pan and cool completely on cooling rack
15: Yield: 1 loaf
