2 : tb Butter; chilled and cut

Into : Into small bits

6 : c Self-rising flour

1 : c Fresh bread crumbs

1 : tb Mixed herbs

1/4 : c Solid shortening

1 : Egg; beaten

Broth : Broth or water

Salt : Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

0: About 2 hours before serving or early in the day

1: In bowl, combine yeast, sugar, salt, and 1 cup flour

2: In saucepan over medium heat, heat margarine and 1 cup water until very warm (125 degrees)

3: With mixer at low speed, beat liquid into dry ingredients

4: At medium speed, beat 2 minutes

5: Reserve 1 egg white; beat in egg and egg yolk with 1 cup flour; beat 2 minutes

6: Stir in 2 1/4 cups flour

7: Turn dough onto floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes, working in about 1/4 cup flour while kneading

8: Shape dough into ball; cover and let rest 15 minutes

9: Preheat oven to 375 degrees

10: Grease 2 cookie sheets

11: Cut dough into eighths

12: For 1 bunny; cut 1 piece dough in half; shape half into ball, with a kiss in center, for body

13: Place on cookie sheet

14: Cut other half in half; shape half into ball; brush with egg white; place next to large ball, tucking slightly under it for head

15: From remaining half, pinch off 3/4-indh piece for tail and shape 2 ears

16: Brush tail and ears with egg white; tuck slightly under bunny

17: Brush body with egg white

18: Make 3 more bunnies

19: Bake 15 minutes or until browned

20: Cool on rack

21: Repeat to make 4 more

22: Mix confectioners' sugar with about 1/4 teaspoon water and a hint of red food coloring (for pink); use to draw face on bunnies
